Every year at the beginning of December, many film makers, directors, actors and other film-related people come to Luang Prabang. They meet together with an interested audience at the Luang Prabang Film Festival.

Well, we have another small anecdote for you. Today, it’s about us stuck with our little local language skills…
This time, we have a short anecdote about an encounter with Lao students and us.
The first one and a half months of our time in Luang Prabang have passed and we thought it’s time to find some new things to do. Luckily, we were able to join a hiking tour with Tiger Trail near Luang Prabang recently. We learned a lot about Lao culture that we’d like to tell you about and, of course, we have some photos as well.
Today, we have just a short anecdote for you. Since this may happen more often, we start this new subcategory called “Aelizebeth in Laos – short”.
The first part of our trip that we told you about included Vang Vieng and Vientiane. Both are quite interesting cities and we want to tell you a bit about our experiences there.
Vang Vieng – a tourist city in amazing landscape
Vang Vieng, a small city, is located in the middle of the northern part of Laos, about half the way from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. This makes it easy to include in our trip and it’s worth it! The city is embedded in a wonderful landcape with unique hills and mountains around it. For us, it felt like it has been cut out of a picture book. We decided to get to see more of the nature around Vang Vieng by cycling west of Nam Song river. The paths are not all street-like, but it’s quite flat and you’ll get rewarded for your effort.
Member first lines of this Journey Song (“Don’t stop believing”)?
“Just two german boys, living in a new world…” yada yada yada. But we weren’t about looking for love or whatever the point of this song is anyway. There was just a bag positioned in Bangkok and a lot to see on this side of the planet, we decided to settle on for a while.
As you might know, health care in developing countries is usually not as good as in first world countries. Since Laos is one of the poorest countries in South East Asia, especially children suffer from this disadvantage. That’s why there is Lao Friends Hospital for Children. Like all social projects, the hospital is dependent on donations and volunteers. To earn money, there’s a charity half marathon yearly in luang prabang.
